Title: A Wattle for Every Situation
Broadcast: 26th September 2015
Presenter: Melissa King

Wattles paint the landscape gold at this time of the year, but it’s always nice to grow one at home too, to remind us that spring is finally here and provide a splash of cheery colour.

  • Acacia ‘Lime Magik’ is a beautiful evergreen tree that displays soft yellow flower balls during the late winter and spring, but the flowers aren’t the main feature of this plant – the beautiful bright lime green and weeping branches that make this plant so magic.
  • ‘Waterfall’ is a spectacular wattle variety, with its groundcover form that has been grafted onto a standard, so that the weeping foliage cascades down. If you don’t trim the foliage, it will actually cascade all the way to the ground.
  • Acacia Gold Lace is another standard, with a fern-like grey-green foliage and masses of gold flowers in the winter, this is one standard worth looking out for.
  • ‘Mini Cog’ has been around for a while, holding its compact shape well. It forms attractive mounds of lush looking green foliage to around one metre in height.
