Michael shares another fantastic lawn tip to keep your grass ahead of the game!
- If you have unsightly scalped areas after mowing, you may want to consider a dethatch renovation.
- Over time dead and decaying organic matter can build up in the profile in what we call thatch.
- If this thatch is left untreated, then it can break down and create issues with drainage in the soil profile and sponginess in the surface.
- With excess thatch your lawn is also more prone to disease, dry patch, and other lawn health issues.
- By removing the surface thatch, you will set your lawn up to use less water and allow those vital nutrients that you apply to reach the rootzone.
- Grooming, vertimowing or scarifying is the process of removing thatch with the difference of the depth at which the blades penetrate the surface
- Just be mindful that some varieties of lawn such as Buffalo do not like heavy dethatching, and you should always make sure your lawn is in good health before renovating!
