Composting is one of the best things you can do for your garden and is a process that converts organic materials into a nutrient-rich soil amendment or mulch through natural decomposition. Neville shares his tips and tricks for creating the perfect compost!
- Composting reduces waste and feeds the soil borne organisms which in turn feed, water and protect your plants.
- Compost needs to be made with a high Nitrogen/carbon ratio, which means more green than brown materials going into the bin or heap.
- A new compost activator has recently been released by Soil Solver which is the first of its kind in Australia.
- This activator combines pure natural Nitrogen from feather meal with the unique full spectrum blend of rock and ore minerals as well as agricultural grade Kaolin clay that holds onto moisture and nutrients.
- By adding 250ml to every 20-25litres of raw materials you will enhance the composting process by upping the nitrogen component which produces heat; enough to kill off those pesky weed seeds.
- At the same time, you will be depositing a full spectrum of mineral nutrients that will remain in the mix right through the process and end up in your soil where it’s needed.
- This perfect partnership of organics and minerals makes the rock and ore minerals available to the plant.
- Fully matured compost also significantly reduces hydrophobic or water repellent soil issues we have in the sandy soils of WA
