  • There are different exotic fruits that we can be planted in the comfort of your backyard. Here are the some of Neville’s suggestions:
  • Red Dacca Banana: This unusual dwarf banana features striking purple-red fruits and grows to about 2 metres tall. Known for its rich, creamy flavour when ripe, it’s a delightful addition to any garden.
  • Custard Apple: A prolific fruiter, this tree has produced over a hundred fruits this year. Thriving in a Mediterranean climate, it’s easy to grow. Prune ruthlessly for easy harvesting and enjoy the incredibly sweet flavour that feels almost indulgent.
  • White Sapote: Originating from South America, this fruit comes from a sizeable tree, though it can be kept in a pot with heavy pruning. Be sure to thin the fruitlets to enhance the size and quality of the harvest.
  • Ice Cream Bean: This tropical legume self-feeds by producing nitrogen through its roots. The long beans mature to reveal a white, fluffy flesh that tastes just like ice cream—an absolute treat for your taste buds!
  • Dragon Fruit: With over a hundred varieties now available in Australia, dragon fruit is easy to cultivate in back gardens. Ensure you provide a strong supporting frame for these vibrant, eye-catching fruits.
  • Kaffir Lime: Known for its bitter juice, the rind of the Kaffir lime is perfect for enhancing Thai dishes, while the leaves can be used to brew refreshing herbal tea.
  • Australian Finger Lime: Once rare, these sought-after fruits have gained popularity through TV cooking shows. Not only are they valuable for culinary uses, but they also make stunning ornamental plants when in full flower.
  • Brazilian Cherry: Coming into bloom now, this ornamental fruiting tree produces rich, deep red fruits packed with vitamin C. The leaves have natural insect-repelling properties, making them great for keeping mosquitoes at bay when crushed and scattered around your outdoor spaces.
