This winter has been a real wet one! And the sodden ground can be really hard to deal with. Let us show you how!
- Sodden soil literally smothers the plant's root system, and healthy roots are essential to healthy growth.
- The roots absorb water, but they need air as well; that is why well-aerated soil is critical to a healthy lawn or garden.
- You can add subsurface drainage pipes; they are slotted and allow water to seep in and run it off into other places.
- Forking the ground is also a great way to open it up and improve drainage. A simple garden fork is all that’s required for smaller gardens or lawns, and a corer is better for larger lawns.
- Once that’s done, grab some Gypsum to improve cellular structure in plants. Be generous, you can use a lot in heavy soils and not impact the soil's pH as it's neutral, unlike normal garden lime.
