Trevor reminds us to check the plants in our hanging baskets, giving them a boost to look amazing all spring and summer long!
- Pothos or devil's ivy are perfect for hanging baskets. They are incredibly hardy, but they need three things to really look great.
- A good potting mix is especially important. Specialist hanging basket or tub and terracotta mix, if you can’t find one, a premium mix like this with some added water storage crystals will do. Premium potting mixes have at least 6 to 9 months of controlled release in them, which means you don’t need to boost nutrition; you can just change the soil over.
- One trick, though, is to add some newspaper, just two sheets thick, as a layer over the original liner. This will reduce moisture loss through evaporation. Wet it, pop some new potting mix in the base of the pot first, then the plant on top. Then add soil around the outside of the roots, filling it all in.
- Wash it in with Seasol. It reduces transplant shock and stress and encourages strong root growth.
