Kings Park Festival

Segment: Kings Park Festival
Episode: Spring 2019, Ep04
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
TX Date: 28th September 2019

Western Australia is known for its incredible wildflower display, and you don’t have to travel long distances to see them – Perth’s very own Kings Park has a fantastic range of wildflowers.

  • WA’s South West is a biodiversity hotspot, and its spring flowering period is one of the best in the world, with over 12,000 species of plant unique to the area.
  • Kings Park comes alive in September, hosting the world’s best wildflower festival.
  • You’ll be able to see plants and trees from all WA regions in Kings Park, such as the Boab Tree, straight from the Kimberly, which is on display in the Lookout carpark.
  • The festival features garden talks and tours, Indigenous cultural tours, and even photography and bird–watching tours.
  • Qualup Bells are a plant from the Fitzgerald National Park that is now available in garden centres nationally. This is a stunning plant, and one that is easy to grow once it has been established.
  • Everlastings are extremely water wise – they grow during the wet season and die off during the summer, resting the soil.
  • Kangaroo Paws come in a range of colours and sizes. They look spectacular in the spring.
  • The festival runs throughout September, but you’ll be able to see the spring flowers all through October, and well into November.
