The Fox Tail Agave is an indestructible plant that’s had a massive impact on modern gardens, and the easiest way to grow it is from a plantlet.
- A plantlet is a plant that emerges after germinating on either the flower stalk or the main growing stalk.
- Plant each one in a small pot, using a top-quality potting mix. They like being slightly rootbound.
- It’ll take 5-10 years for these plants to become large. If you’re looking for instant gratification, you should take a large cutting.
- You’ll need a good saw and a wheelbarrow to catch the head when you cut it off. It’ll be extremely heavy, and you don’t want to have to carry it around.
- When you take your cutting, you should make a small cut underneath before cutting on top to make sure the bark doesn’t tear as it falls.
- Dig a planting hole straight into the existing soil. Put the cutting trunk first into the ground and fill it in around the outside.
- These plants are tough and need very little attention. All you need to do is make sure they get plenty of sun and water and they’ll thrive.
